We like to say they left the "c" off the front of that word. (Think about it. Wait for it. Now, you get it, right?)
For my personal tastes, I love to listen to John Boy & Billy first thing in the morning while I'm checking email or posting to the blog. Their affiliate in Nashville is WNRQ - 105.9 The Rock, a classic rock station, so between the humor and antics of JB&B I get some of my favorite tunes from my "era", as The Boy calls it.
When I'm ready to write, or when the Big Show signs off, whichever comes first, I switch the boom box over to its CD function and plug up my "working music". Classical, jazz, contemporary orchestral - and I'm making a list of movie soundtracks to start acquiring - anything without lyrics, in other words. Lyrics are distracting when I'm trying to come up with words on my own. But there's nothing like ripping strings or thundering percussion to get the creative juices flowing. I've probably said this before, but since the DLers were harping on it, I thought I would, too.
Yesterday turned out to not be as productive a day as I had hoped as far as the writing, but I had the opportunity to do something for a friend in need, and that in and of itself makes time spent worthwhile.
I had a nice chat with JT yesterday afternoon. Turns out she didn't get a lot done yesterday, either, so it was a mutually beneficial pep talk session. Her sweet hubby was going to take her out for dinner, get her away from the stress and strain that is her writing business life at the moment. Much deserved. But we agreed that the next time we sat at our computers - which for me is today - we were going to get some serious work done.
So I'm putting on Rachmaninov and the LA Philharmonic and getting busy.
Read a book. It's good for you.
=) JB
