Road Trips & Tea Kettles

I mentioned a few days ago that I have a new tea kettle, courtesy of the Queen of Shorts. I used it for the first time this week, and I learned that it does not whistle. It sings. It sounds like the penultimate strains of Haydn's Duet for Two Flutes when it really gets steaming. At least now I won't burn my house down.

The girls and I leave in the morning for our Mississippi road trip, the first of three consecutive weekend excursions that will involve driving greater than four hours one way. For this trip, Little Bit has been instructed to take something to do as we will be at either a hotel or a basketball game all weekend. The child is heck on wheels when she's bored. I'm taking a couple of books, of course.

My triplets are coming down from their post ThrillerFest highs and starting to delve into life's little ponderable questions. Here's JT's Killer Year post, and Brett's lament about the shortage of his reading-for-pleasure time. Amen, brother and sister.

Speaking of reading, I'm nearly finished with the current SinC-MidTN summer reading selection, She Walks These Hills by Sharyn McCrumb. So far I'm enjoying it, but I'll post my thoughts after I've finished it. Ought to make for a good discussion next Tuesday.

Read a book. It's good for you.

=) JB
