I live for this - it's one of my love languages. If you don't know what I'm talking about, I can't help you, because I can't remember the guy's name off the top of my head who wrote the book. Yes, I could look it up. But today is my lazy day.* Anyway, affirmation and physical touch (I'm a hugger) - those are my two. And every so often I find evidence that this assessment of my character is accurate. Today is one of those instances.
My ArcaMax subscription includes 19 daily ezines. I've already done the crossword puzzle this morning. But I found this under History & Quotes today:
"Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him."
-- Maya Angelou (1928- ) American writer and performer
Learning something new. I also get a Trivia ezine, and yesterday I learned something I'd never realized -- the "Dr" in Dr Pepper does not have a period:
Was there a real Dr. Pepper?
Charles Alderton, a Texan pharmacist, created a soft drink and named it after his prospective father-in-law, Dr. Charles Kenneth Pepper. The doctor was unimpressed, so Alderton dropped the period after the abbreviation for doctor and made his fortune with "Dr Pepper."
Yesterday saw somewhere in the neighborhood of 2-3 inches of rain slog the mid-South, with another inch or two predicted for today. Perfect type of day to hole up in the study and get things done. I don't have to go anywhere, and I don't have to do anything ... no, wait, that last statement isn't quite true at all. I have a to-do list a mile long. It's just that none of it involves having to drive anywhere. I love days like this.
Music of the Moment: (hah - didn't think you'd see that again, did you?) Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone soundtrack (John Williams). Yeah, I'm a geek. And obsessed. I can't help it.
Read a book. Even Ms. Angelou says it's good for you.
=) JB
*Okay, so I looked it up, and here you go: The Five Love Languages (Dr. Gary Chapman)
